Translation of formalidad in Spanish-English

My boss offered it to me, so that a few more people at work will have a good level of English and now I really have to kick my own ass (I've started last year and it's not going very well).
Sorry, I did not know that I have a meeting with a friend. I will talk about our trip. Many thanks for the email and I hope we write eachother again soon and next time longer letters, I promise.
What do you think of the current situation? Like you, I am writing letters, emails and other messages. Tomorrow I will leave, then I will go to my friend in Spain, where we are planing a beach vacation.
