Spanish Numbers

Although students can easily learn the rules for building Spanish numbers by heart it can still be confusing for many of them. Numbers are formed using several words (similar to English). Some numbers may change according to the gender of the described noun.
The number "uno" (one) becomes "un" if it is written before a noun with a male gender. The same applies for all other numbers that end with an "uno". For example: un hombre (1 man), una mujer (1 woman), cuarenta y un hombres (41 men)
For example: cien hombres (100 men), cien mujeres (100 women), ciento cuarenta hombres (140 men), ciento cuarenta mujeres (140 women)
Please use the following table to learn the Spanish numbers by heart. Like in any language, the most important numbers are 0 to 20:
Table number 1:
0-9 | 10-19 |
0 = cero 1 = uno 2 = dos 3 = tres 4 = cuatro 5 = cinco 6 = seis 7 = siete 8 = ocho 9 = nueve |
10 = diez 11 = once 12 = doce 13 = trece 14 = catorce 15 = quince 16 = dieciséis 17 = diecisiete 18 = dieciocho 19 = diecinueve |
The numbers 20-29 are written in one word. The numbers 30-99 are formed by placing the decimal digit first (second digit from the right), then the word "y" (=and) then the unit's digit (right-most digit). When the unit's digit is zero we do not write "y cero".
20-29 | 30 - | 40 - | 50 - |
20 = veinte 21 = veintiuno 22 = veintidós 23 = veintitrés 24 = veinticuatro 25 = veinticinco 26 = veintiséis 27 = veintisiete 28 = veintiocho 29 = veintinueve |
30 = treinta 31 = treinta y uno 32 = treinta y dos 33 = treinta y tres |
40 = cuarenta 41 = cuarenta y uno 42 = cuarenta y dos |
50 = cincuenta 60 = sesenta 70 = setenta 80 = ochenta 90 = noventa |
100 - 1 000 000 000 |
100 = cien/ciento 101 = ciento uno 102 = ciento dos 110 = ciento diez 153 = ciento cincuenta y tres 200 = doscientos 201 = doscientos uno 202 = doscientos dos 244 = doscientos cuarenta y cuatro 300 = trescientos 400 = cuatrocientos 500 = quinientos 600 = seiscientos 700 = setecientos 800 = ochocientos 900 = novecientos 1000 = mil 2000 = dos mil 2000 = dos mil 5000 = cinco mil 6744 = seis mil setecientos cuarenta y cuatro 10 000 = diez mil 100 000 = cien mil 1 000 000 = un millón 5 000 000 = cinco millones 1 000 000 000 = mil millones 1 000 000 000 000 = billón |
